Professor and Captain: Liz Vallard

"My advice to someone retiring is pick a place you love to be and do whatever is necessary to live there," says Liz Vallard of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts.

Now in her early sixties, the former college professor and New York City native has held a series of retirement jobs. They have ranged from a technical lighting designer in a theater, to being a tour guide, to operating the "Chappy Ferry", which carries people to the island of Chappaquiddick, widely known as the site of a deadly automobile accident in 1969 that greatly affected the career of U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy.
